<image:caption>(she/her) Principal Investigator I am a biological anthropologist with an interest in studying the evolution and genetics of human hair and skin. In addition to my academic work, I am very active as a science communicator. I host a show on PBS Terra called Why Am I Like This? and you can find me on Instagram, Tiktok, and Twitter, or possibly somewhere near you at my next speaking event. My work focuses on developing rigorous methods to understand the landscape of biological variation and a critical lens to investigate how that overlaps with various social concepts. I aim to provide people with the knowledge and tools to understand how we can study human variation and how it matters in everything from cosmetics, to technology and medicine. I just started as an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Michigan and am also affiliated with the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology. website • twitter • linkedin CV</image:caption>

I assisted in preparing hair samples for both curvature and cross-section photography. The environment in the lab was always so welcoming and it was fun trying out new techniques for the procedure to improve the photography. Currently I am in my fourth year as an ORISE fellow at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the Tobacco and Volatile Branch. I am also in the middle of obtaining my Master of Science in Medical Sciences with a concentration in Forensic Medicine from the University of Florida. I have really enjoyed learning about both the forensic pathology and anthropology field so far. Maybe in another life I would have pursued Forensic Anthropology as my career. My expected graduation date will be in December 2025. I hope that once I finish my fifth year in my fellowship and have graduated from UF that I will find a job in forensic science as a chemist or medicolegal death investigator, preferably where I reside now in Atlanta, Georgia but I grew up as an Army brat so making a big move again is not off the table. I may consider going to medical school in the future to become a forensic pathologist, since it has been a goal since high school. I have enjoyed exploring the Atlanta area so far, and I know there is plenty to still see. I have even considered working for a convention again like I did for 3 years in my undergraduate years, but it may have to wait until I finish schooling this time. There are many conventions though to attend in Atlanta and a few only about an hour away. Atlanta also has a Renaissance Faire that I hope to attend for the first time next year. linkedin</image:caption>
