Lasisi Lab University of Michigan
The Lasisi Lab studies the evolution and genetic basis of human phenotypic variation, with a focus on hair and pigmentation.
What we study
We study human variation through the lens of hair morphology and skin pigmentation, combining quantitative phenotyping with population and evolutionary genetics. Comparative evolutionary work in non-human primates extends this to the phylogenetics of pigmentation across lineages. We also investigate hair as a biological record, including how structural variation affects biomarker measurements like cortisol. And our work includes the ethical, legal, and social implications of human variation science, such as forensic genetics.
